Life to Eagle Meeting - Monday January 11th
All Life Scouts are requested to attend an informational meeti=
ng on
Monday January 11th, 7:30-8:30pm in the Fireside Lounge. =
Scouts,
please bring a parent along.
The Troop would like to welcome and thank Steve Berg, Lunny
Lundstrom, and Wick Smith for agreeing to become new Life to E=
agle
Advisors. They all will be great additions to our progra=
m and
a good resource for the Life Scouts assigned to them.
Besides discussing the program in general and what the role of=
an
Advisor entails, we will assign an Advisor to any current Life
Scouts who do not yet have one. Life Scouts need to
plan on at least 6 months to complete their Eagle project and
remaining Eagle-required merit badges. Some of these mer=
it
badges require at least 6 months to complete, so don't delay..=
.
Please attend this very important meeting. If you have a=
ny

Board of Review and Winter Court of Honor
Next Board of Review - Monday February 1. Scouts, please=

...For Troop Committee Positions:
There are a number of open Troop Committee Positions that need=
to be
filled - won't you consider getting more involved? As Ga=
ry
Witherell's son Trevor will be turning 18, he will be stepping=
down
as Troop Committee Chair at the end of 2010. Now is the
perfect time to become Vice Chair and learn the Chair job.&nbs=
p;
Other current open positions are Camporee Coordinator, Scoutin=
g for
Food Coordinator, Event Coordinator, Librarian, Recruiting Cha=
ir
and Secretary.
Thanks to Jeff Weber for his years of excellent service=
to
Troop 237. Most recently Jeff served as Troop representa=
tive
for Order of the Arrow. He has stepped down (his son Alex
graduated last year) and we are grateful to Gabe Esquivel
for taking on this important position. Gabe has st=
epped
down as Troopmaster guru, so the Troop is looking for an ASM w=
ho
can fill this essential role (requires computer skills). =
ASM's are always needed as well - with the high percentage of =
Life
Scouts in the Troop, parents of younger Scouts should consider
filling the gap. The Troop needs adults with required outdoor =
and
safety training for outings to continue. The train=
ing
courses teach important lifeskills - they are offered through =
the
District and can be taken online or by attending classes that =
are
periodically organized.
Speaking of Training... LEAD 2010 (Leader Education and
Discovery) is one of the best opportunities for adults to get
trained in all kinds of Scout topics -- a broad range of cours=
es
are offered, all in one day at DVC. LEAD is being =
held
January 23rd, 8-4:30pm. Details are on our District's we=
bsite
(see link above). Please email Training Chair Steve Berg to learn how to register, or give =
him a
call to learn more (253-8707).
...For Merit Badge Counselors:
Parents - are you interested in sharing a particular interest =
of
yours with our Scouts? It's a great way to work with Sco=
uts
and introduce them to an area of interest you have, whether it=
be a
professional field, academic or artistic focus. There are
over 120 merit badges Scouts can earn - will you consider lead=
ing
one?
In particular, there are two Eagle required merit badges where=
we
need counselors: Communications and Camping. If yo=
u can
help or if you have questions, please contact Carolyn Palmer, =

Coordinator at 254-8414.

Adult and Scout CPR
Training
The Moraga Fire Department offers CPR classes for Scouts, and =
CPR
certification for adults. These training sessions are of=
fered
to Scouts and Scout parents specifically, and have a minimum n=
umber
of attendees required before they will run the course.

The First Aid Merit Badge requires Scouts to take a CPR class =

is Saturday January 9th, 9am-noon at the Moraga Fire Station.<=

can do so on Saturday January 16th, 9am-noon, at the Moraga Fi=

Hospice Tree Lighti=
ng,

On Saturday December 5, 2009 a group of Scouts helped Orinda w=
ith
the city's annual Hospice Tree Lighting ceremony. The leader o=
f the
project was Jack Kovalik. The other Scouts who particip=
ated
were Jack Jorgensen, Mark Palmer, Mark Laughton, Brandon
Armosino, Nick Valcke, Bryce Hummer, Chris Berg, and Neil Weik=
ert.
The Scouts were responsible for setting up the risers and prep=
aring
the area for the concert as well as taking everything down aft=
er
the ceremony ended. Our group got to listen to the choirs from=
the
elementary schools and OIS perform Christmas carols. Overall, =
it
was fun for us to participate and help out in an Orinda tradit=
ion.

Awesome Football by

Down at O.I.S. field, on Thanksgiving Day, we had a great game=
of
two hand touch football. In the end, the Scouts prevailed to w=
in 9
touchdowns to 6 in a diehard game for victory. The Scouts who
played were: Neil and Kyle Weikert, Alex and Jack
Jorgensen, Mark and John Palmer, Charlie Wiser, Jason and Just=
in
Lammert, and Kyle Miller. Among the vigorous dads who gave=
it
their best shot were: Mr. Jorgensen, Mr. Miller, Mr. Lammer=
t,
Mr. Cooper and a former Scout, Tom Guzzo. Mr. Weikert, M=
r.
Palmer, and Mr. Smith were the cheerleaders. Highlig=
hts:
Former Scoutmaster Bill Cooper scored two touchdowns fo=
r the
dads. The quarterback for the dads was Alex Miller and f=
or
the Scouts, Kyle Miller and Kyle Weikert shared the position.&=
nbsp;
Dads, maybe next year you can take home the victory!
