News from SPL Jason
Lammert
Monday October 26th is our next Troop meeting from 7:30-8:30pm,
followed by a PLC meeting from 8:30-9pm. This PLC is =
an
important one to attend for any Scout who needs a job.&nbs=
p;
All Patrol Leaders and Assistant PL's and Group 1 ASPL's are
expected to attend.
We'll be planning our November Troop meetings, as well as
organizing for Scouting for Food, which will be run by Patrols=
.
Scouting for Food Scout Leaders are ASPL's Spencer Whittaker a=
nd
Kevin Yee. Materials will be handed out to PL's on Monday
11/9. Door Hangers will be distributed on Saturday morni=
ng
11/14. Collection of food donations will be Saturday am, 11/21=

November 16th is an important Troop meeting for Scouts to atte=
nd.
5th graders (and their parents) interested in joining our Troo=

Family Corn Maze Ou=
ting
Sunday 10/25, 1-6pm
OPEN TO ALL SCOUTS AND FAMILIES!
This coming Sunday is our outing to a pumpkin patch and corn
maze. Previous plans were to have scouts 14+ go to the 42
acre Dixon Corn maze, but that maze was destroyed by the storm=
2
weeks ago. Quick on his feet, Scoutmaster Jorgensen found
another great pumpkin patch and corn maze, near Tracy, which is
about an hour's drive from Orinda.
Plans are to meet at Orinda Community Church at 1pm, carpool to
Dell'Osso Family Farm, enjoy the numerous attractions includin=
g; 4
zip lines, 20+ acre corn maze, haunted house, pumpkin blasters=
-
shoots mini pumpkins at field targets, and a U-pick pumpkin

to the Orinda Community Church by 6pm.

This will be a fun outing for the whole family - be sure and j=

us. Group of 12 allows for a group rate of $10.00 =

Santa Cruz Mountain
Biking/Overnight - Nov 7-8
Sign ups for the November 7-8 Santa Cruz Coastal Camping and
Mountain Bike Adventure will be available at the 10/26 Troop
meeting, and flyers with further information will be mailed ho=
me.
Plans are to depart Orinda Community Church at 8am Saturday No=
vember
7th, set up camp at New Brighton State Beach campground in
Capitola, and go on one or two mountain biking trails in the
area. This trip will count toward camping nights and cyc=
ling
merit badge requirements. Camping will be near our cars,=
so
there is not a significant amount of hiking involved.

Fife, Adult Advisor. Deadline to sign up is Monday
November 2nd. Cost is $40 for campsite fees, transportat=
ion
and meals. Scouts and parents attending need to provide =
their
own mountain bike.

Horsemanship Merit =
Badge
Offered 11/11 =
Wednesday November 11th is Veteran's Day, and a school holiday=
for
OUSD and AUHSD. How fun it would be to spend the afterno=
on
earning the Horsemanship merit badge!
The Horsemanship merit badge will be run through Castlerock
Arabians (registered with BSA). The two hour session wil=
l teach
Scouts about horse safety, how to properly mount and dismount a
horse, caring for a horse, leading and riding a horse. F=

The 2 hour session will run from 2:30-4:30pm. Castlerock
Arabians is located at 1350 Castlerock Road, Walnut
Creek. We will meet at 1:45pm at the Orinda
Community Church and carpool 1/2 hour to Castlerock Arabians.&=
nbsp;
Scouts should wear long pants, sturdy shoes and bring a drink =
and
snack. We will return to the Church by 5:15pm.&nbs=
p;
Sign ups will be available at the 10/26 Troop meeting, or emai=
l Carolyn
Palmer. Cost is $70 per Scout, due by November 9th.&=
nbsp;
Checks should be made payable to BSA Troop 237 and mailed to

Redwood Recruit Out=
ing

What a great recruit overnight at Redwood Regional
Park. On October 17th and 18th, 32 total youth attended =
- 19
Troop 237 Scouts and 13 boys who are possibly interested in jo=
ining
our Troop. We also had 16 parents attend the dinner, cam=
pfire
and/or the overnight.
We kicked off this outing by setting up tents and unpacking. W=
here
we helped the cub scouts who needed help with setting up tents=
. We
then had a traditional flag ceremony and announcements. Soon a=
fter,
we separated into two teams and started a truly intense two day
football game in which we ended up tying. Both old and new sco=
uts
enjoyed a dinner of hamburgers and hot dogs and then went back=
into
the game. We then had a campfire, lead by LIfe Scouts Kyle
Miller and Kevin Yee, which was full of songs, skits, dutch
oven brownies and s'mores. Soon we all went to bed. In the mor=
ning
we had a delicious breakfast of bacon and pancakes. We commenc=
ed
the football game for a third time and then packed up. We left=
at
around 11:00 and had a great time too.

food, Scoutmaster Jorgensen for being the head chef, Gabe
Esquivel for going early to help Mr. Jorgensen set up, =
Jeff
Holland for his explanation of Troop 237 activities and ad=
vancement
during the campfire, and to Patti Young, Carolyn and Craig
Stewart, Steve Berg, Lynne Alper, Sean Hogan, and Mike Novogra=
dac
for driving and/or staying overnight.
It was a huge effort and fun was had by all!=
