Heidelman 1 was a great success. 11 Scouts and 5 parents
attended and last weekend and all had a great time. T=

transportation, plus cash for meals on the road and lift ticke=

backpacking, snowshoeing and camping for one night at Castle P=

Winter Court of Honor 2/22
The Winter Court of Honor will be held Monday February 22,
7:30-8:30pm. Thanks to Anna Duncan, who is coordinating
snacks for the COH. Reminder to Scouts that you sh=

the COH.

Neckerchiefs
Scouts - have you lost or misplaced your Troop 237 neckerchief=
?
When you joined the Troop, you were given the blue neckerchief=
as a
welcome gift. They are special ordered through BSA and the Tro=
op
absorbs the cost of your first one.
If you need to replace your neckerchief, Carolyn Palmer will h=

them available for purchase 15 minutes before the Winter=

Congratulations Eric and Bill for being nominated by our Troop=
for
the Adult Scouters of the Year Award. This is a very nice
honor, in recognition of their involvement and service to Troop
237.
There will be a recognition dinner on Wednesday February 10th,=
from
6-9pm at the Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church. Family,
friends and Scouts are welcome. Cost is $15 (awardees are

Welcoming New Scout=

Parents to Troop 237
All signs are this will be a very strong recruiting year for T=
roop
237. Scouts and parents, our efforts during the Redwood
Recruiting outing last October and our invitation to visit a T=
roop
meeting last November are paying off - at this point, we antic=
ipate
approximately 20 boys will be joining Troop 237 this coming Ma=
rch.
Calendar highlights for new Scouts joining Troop 237 are:

100th Anniversary
Jamboree 4/15-18, 2010
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Boy Scouts, S=
couts
and parents are encouraged to participate with the Troop in th=
e 100th
Anniversary Jamboree,which will be held April 15-18 at the Ala=
meda
County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton.
There will be NO MDSC sponsored Camporee this year - in=
stead
all 11 Northern California Councils are sponsoring the April
Jamboree and the program is geared more toward exhibitions and
demonstrations, rather than competition. Activities will
include BMX Racing, Field Sports, Interactive displays,
reenactments and living Scout History, and Arena shows.
Troop 237 will gather for 1 camping night at the Fairgrounds.&=
nbsp;
Details to follow. This promises to be a very exciting
weekend at the Fairgrounds! Families welcome...

Dec 2009 Hospice Tr=

The hospice tree lighting has been a tradition in
Orinda for many years. Every year on the first Saturday of
December, this event takes place in the parking lot in front of
Bank of America. The tradition is to string lights on a large =
tree
in the parking lot, and the lights are turned on for the entire
Christmas season, so it looks like a giant Christmas
tree. =
=
Hospice is an organization that takes care of peo=
ple
who are dying, and this event raised money for this
organization. Our Scout Leader of this outing was Jack
Kovalik. We started out setting up the risers for the sing=
ers.
Then we set up the Santa chair for the little kids to ask what=
they
wanted for Christmas. After everything was set up, we listened=
to
the great singers from the different schools around Orinda. Th=
en
Santa came out of a fire truck, all of the kids were so surpri=
sed
and filled with happiness.
=
It was a fun event and a great Orinda tradition.<=
/span>

June 2009 OIS Gradu=
ation

The OIS graduation is a ceremony for the 8th grad=
ers
who are graduating from middle school. This event always takes
place the day before school ends. Over 300 kids graduate every
year, and there are a lot of chairs to set up and take down so=
that
all of their families can sit and enjoy the ceremony. <=
/span>
=
Last June, Troop 237 Scouts were responsible for
taking down the chairs at the end of graduation. As soon as
graduation was over, we started unfolding chairs and stacked t=
hem
up on roller carts. Then we started bringing in plants that we=
re
used to decorate the graduation stage. The custodian hel=
ped
us to roll the carts to a storage area.
=

Scout leader of this outing. Over 10 scouts helped and =
it
was a fun and easy way to give back to the community. &nb=
sp;
This is a great service event, and I encourage Scouts to
participate this coming June.
